Sanctions Compliance Senior Finance Specialist

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Sanctions Compliance Senior Finance Specialist who will be responsible for overseeing and developing our compliance with international sanctions lists within the financial governance department of The Emirates Group. This critical role aims to safeguard the company’s reputation, mitigate risks, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, thereby avoiding financial penalties and potential legal issues. 

In this role, you will oversee:

  • Transaction Monitoring and Investigation: Oversee our screening against sanctions lists and investigate any hits or potential violations promptly. Take appropriate action, including reporting to senior management, and implementing remedial measures as necessary.
  • Sanctions Compliance Oversight: Monitor and analyse international sanctions lists, regulations, and updates to ensure the company’s policies and procedures align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, update, and enforce policies, procedures, and controls related to sanctions compliance throughout the organisation, including but not limited to vendor and customer onboarding, transaction screening, and reporting processes.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver sanctions compliance training programs for employees at all levels to ensure awareness and understanding of sanctions regulations, company policies, and procedures. Provide ongoing support and guidance to employees on compliance-related matters.
  • Reporting and Communication: Prepare and submit regular reports to senior management on sanctions compliance activities, including identified risks, remediation efforts, and regulatory developments. Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries related to sanctions compliance.
  • Audits and Reviews: Coordinate internal and external audits and reviews of sanctions compliance processes and controls. Implement recommendations and improvements identified during audits to strengthen the compliance program continually.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, including legal, group risk management, finance, and operations teams, to promote a culture of compliance and facilitate collaboration on sanctions-related initiatives.
  • Stay Informed: Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks in sanctions compliance through continuous learning, participation in professional networks, and engagement with industry associations.

Qualifications & Experience:

To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

  • 12 years schooling or equivalent. 
  • Additional professional certifications (e.g., CGSS, CSS, CAMS, ACCA) would be advantageous.
  • 5+ years of Financial Compliance / Audit / Risk Management experience or a similar role with a strong focus on Sanctions Compliance. 

You’ll have an edge if you have:

  • In-depth knowledge of international sanctions regulations, including but not limited to OFAC, EU, UN, and other relevant jurisdictions.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing sanctions compliance policies, procedures, and controls, with the ability to identify process gaps, propose solutions, and implement effective controls.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate complex compliance risks effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at various levels in the organisation with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for sanctions screening and compliance monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, standards, and regulatory requirements with experience in finance, accounting, or related roles.
