Introduction:

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.

Aga Khan University-Institute for Educational Development, Pakistan (AKU-IED) has been a 3-decade partner with the Department of Education (DoE), GB contributing to improving children’s access to quality education, strengthening governance of education, and facilitating community involvement in schools in Gilgit-Baltistan. 

AKU is currently partnering with the DoE GB on the GB Education Fellows (EFs) project, i.e. a commitment of GB Govt to at least partly address the dearth of teachers in the public sector schools in GB. The AKU-led Consortium invites applications from suitable candidates to induct them as Project Manager for GB Education Fellows project at PDCN. 

This is a grant-funded contractual position for a period of eleven months.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Project Director, you will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and finalizing projects within strict deadlines and budgets. The successful candidate will be a natural leader, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams, communicating project goals and progress, and ensuring alignment among all stakeholders. Specifically, you will be responsible to:

  • assist the Project Director in the development, review, and implementation of the project work plans, including monitoring day-to-day implementation of the work plan targets;
  • ensure collecting, updating, and maintaining of data related to the M&E of the project;
  • act as a focal person between the Government Education Department (central and district offices) and Professional Development Center North (PDCN) for coordinating GB Education Fellows Project-related activities;
  • act as a liaison person between PDCN and consortium partners;
  • coordinate with Education Fellows and Schools, Faculty, and project team for project-related activities;
  • coordinate the development and execution of academic programmes to be organised for the capacity building of EFs;
  • provide administrative assistance for timely arrangements of all the project activities (e.g., sending letters, doing follow-ups, arranging events at PDCN and field, etc.);
  • supervise project team for smooth functioning of the project;
  • work closely in coordination with Finance, General Administration, and Academic Administration (at PDCN, AKU-IED/AKU);
  • facilitate preparing project related documents and be responsible for the periodic (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and end of the project) reporting and progress sharing;
  • undertake field visits to monitor project implementation;
  • act as Secretary to the Project Management Committee (PMC) and prepare meeting agenda and minutes accordingly;
  • assist Project Director in financial oversight of the project. 

Requirements:

You should have:

  • preferably a Master’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field;
  • at least five years of proven experience as a project manager or similar role, preferably in Gilgit-Baltistan or a similar region;
  • sound knowledge of local labor laws and regulations;
  • excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills;
  • strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities;
  • proficiency in IT skills;
  • demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse teams;
  • willingness to work beyond normal working hours;
  • willingness to travel in the fields (districts and schools) as required.
