Synopsis:
Reporting to Manager Ground Safety & Quality and accountable for ensuring that all Cargo safety and compliance activities are delivered across the Etihad Network. Working closely with the Manager, Cargo Security and Safety to ensure operations are delivered in accordance with all regulatory and airline-specific requirements. Drives the continuous improvement of the corporate Safety Management System (SMS) for Cargo operations across the Network including AUH International Airport. Responsible for managing, developing, mentoring and supporting with all operational safety & compliance programs and initiatives, in conjunction with, and as directed by Ground Operations HQ.
Accountabilities:
- Responsible for maintaining a holistic overview of all Cargo related safety & compliance related mandates across the Etihad Network including AUH Hub and leads initiatives to drive the fundamentals of Safety Management Systems (SMS) with Network Cargo teams and contracted suppliers.
- Responsible for supporting all corporate audits (Internal Audit, S&Q, Regulatory etc.) related to Cargo Operations. Will provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) guidance to the Operational management team in preparing for audits and will drive the closure of audit findings within defined timescales and as per company standards
- Drive the delivery of a robust SMS across Network Cargo Operations in collaboration with Regional Cargo Handling Managers providing support, coaching, training and station safety reviews. Ensuring engagement with contracted suppliers to develop a strong reporting culture
- Leads the implementation of new policies, procedures and initiatives related to operational safety and compliance management.
- Ensure compliance with annual risk based Cargo Compliance Check assessment/schedule and EY staff training records
- Liaise with Manager Freighter Delivery to oversee freighter planning activities and drive safety & compliance promotion within the Load Master community.
- Responsible for investigating safety incidents, liaising closely with relevant operational management teams, other 3rd party suppliers and HQ departments as applicable. Maintains accountability for embedding sustainable corrective actions into the business.
- Identify and mitigate safety risks associated with change management, conducting hazard identification and risk assessments as required. e.g. new freighter station operations.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationship with the Cargo Management team ensuring consistent application to standard operating procedures.
- Ensure delivery of continuous improvement in safety and compliance performance through agreed measures and indicators. Develop scorecard to monitor and promote strong safety performance.
- Monitor documentation compliance, applicability and effectiveness. Ensure quality processes are in place, maintained and relevant to the operation.
- Make day-to-day operational decisions to manage and mitigate operational safety and security-related risks, through effective evaluation and decision-making based on conditions, hazards and threats.
- Escalate medium or higher-level risks to appropriate senior management or executive level personnel.
- Demonstrate knowledge and capability during exercising of oversight and tasks/duties, maintain awareness of responsibilities and the relationship of tasks/duties to the integrity of the operation as a whole.
Education & Experience:
- Degree level education is preferred, or 8-10 years’ knowledge of airport operations gained with an airline or ground handling agency, with minimum 2 years’ experience in airline safety management.
- Good understanding of computer airfreight specifications and Hub operations
- Minimum Diploma or relevant licence/certifications
- Experience in conducting safety investigations.
- Experience in principles of hazard identification and risk assessment
- Technical training including Dangerous Goods training is desirable.
- A knowledge of airline weight and balance activities is desirable.
