Introduction:
The Aga Khan University Hospital in addition to its five Hospitals creates access through its Outreach Services which include Clinical Laboratories, Outpatient Medical Centres, Pharmacy services, Home Health and other services. Outreach Services are designed to provide primary to secondary healthcare services to patients near their homes and are present in several cities across Pakistan. Outpatient Medical Centres offer a range of specialty clinics including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiopulmonary, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Physiotherapy, and cater to children, adults, and elderly patients for general health checks or specific disease consultations.

Responsibilities:
You will work with the vision care team to assess and manage the care of eye conditions affecting both children and adults, and deal with patients who have Amblyopia (lazy eye) and Strabismus (squint). You will work with the patients who have suffered brain injury, diabetes, stroke, low vision, and glaucoma, and support the optometrist aspect of the Ophthalmology clinic. Specific responsibilities include to:
- examine eye including visual function testing, refraction and intraocular measurement
- take history, do post-assessment counselling and management of Amblyopia
- formulate a treatment plan in conjunction with the Ophthalmologists
- work with a variety of patients ranging from babies to the elderly
- undertaking general administrative duties related to patient care
- train staff in collaboration with the supervisor
- maintain involvement in the research projects, collection of clinical data for audits and establishment of relevant guidelines
- keep updated with the current practices and record work activities as part of continuing professional development.
Requirements:
You should have:
- a Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Vision Sciences or equivalent from any reputable institution, preferably from an institution offering training as an Optometrist
- at least one year of relevant experience or traineeship completed in Ophthalmology clinic / hospital-based setting, particularly with paediatric patients
- good skills checking visual acuity (age-specific) including color assessment, extra movement, Diplopia assessment (including use of prisms)
- good skills in refraction of adult and paediatric patients
- good intercommunication skills, particularly communication skills
- ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams
- willingness to work with patients and work on extended hours on need-basis.
