JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key Responsibilities of the role:
- Liaising with Nursing and Midwifery Senior Leadership
- Management of Clinical Practice
- Performance Improvement/Risk Management
- Promoting Customer Service standards
- Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety, Materials Management, and Maintenance standards
- Ensuring Personal Effectiveness
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- works with the senior nursing and midwifery leadership to ensure efficient healthcare delivery
- Acts as a focal point for all healthcare issues related to nursing and midwifery
- Participates in budget preparations and budget control for respective nursing and midwifery unit/ward
- Provides senior nursing and midwifery leadership with clinical and administrative reports
- Supports and works in partnership with nursing and midwifery executives in setting the strategic direction for the nursing/midwifery department
- Involves in Nursing Task-force and Committees at SEHA and external parties
- Takes a lead role in coordinating hospital services during their shift.
- Supports an environment that allows staff to acquire skills, and identifies and develops new ideas that ensure commitment to the organizational goals.
- Addresses the immediate legal and ethical dilemmas in a professional, collaborative manner and refers to the relevant person for action
- Takes a lead role in managing disasters, codes, and incidents as per the Organization’s policy and procedures.
- Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving.
- Responsible for developing or reviewing guidelines/policies related to Midwifery and Obstetrics across the system
- Responsible for implementation and sustainment of best evidence-based practices in the Midwifery/Obstetrics fields
- Maintains appropriate contact with the organization’s nursing and midwifery executive/administrator “on-call” providing timely and accurate information.
- Monitors and evaluates appropriate utilization of staff in collaboration with the nursing and midwifery team.
- Responsible to ensure that bed allocation and staff skill mix are appropriate for patient condition
- Collaborates with personnel from non-nursing and midwifery department/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care; facilitate solutions as needed
- Participates in committees, and task-forces that are interdisciplinary or interdepartmental; may be required to chair, co-chair, or lead such groups.
Acts as a change agent for the organization. - Facilitates effective patient flow utilizing bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately.
- Monitors and reviews staff skill mix and in accordance with patient acuity uses available information to align staffing and workload.
- Builds relationships with staff, peers, and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning, aimed at improving patient outcomes.
- Works closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach in midwifery / obstetric practices
- Promotes continuity of care that is patient-centered, outcome-oriented, and focused on discharge planning.
- Ensures that quality standards of nursing and midwifery documentation are maintained according to organizational policy.
- Performs hospital rounds to assess, identify problems, determine solutions, and guides teams in the clinical and operational management of services.
- Liaises effectively with other health care providers both internal and external to the organization.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy
- Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.
- Communicates with all unit(s) /departments as appropriate, to maximize efficiency and expedite the admission, transfer, and discharge process.
- Uses information technology to access, transmit and produce information as necessary.
- Supports a culture of performance improvement.
- Lead/Participate in Quality Improvement Projects related to Midwifery Practices
- Monitors and evaluates the quality of nursing and midwifery care provided.
- Provide ongoing support, feedback, and performance focus in addition to remedial actions for midwifery staff if needed
- Actively participates in accreditation activities.
- Undertakes patient and environmental risk assessments and documents corrective action to improve patient outcomes as required.
Audits comply with organizational documentation standards. - Supports and participates in ongoing educational and research programs within the Nursing and Midwifery Department and the organization.
- Supports and participates in the implementation of evidence-based practice to promote clinical knowledge and a research-based clinical practice environment.
- Monitors and supports the organizational Key Performance Indicators and Clinical Indicators and reinforces corrective action to improve clinical service.
- Responsible for the coordination, monitoring, and reporting of incidents occurring within the organization after business hours facilitating corrective or preventative action as required.
- Responsible for minimizing exposure to incidents of infection/cross-infection of patients, staff, visitors, and the general public. Ensures staff adheres to the infection
- control policies and procedures of the organization
- Monitors compliance with International and Department of Health Patient Safety Goals
- Reports on nursing and midwifery department activity e.g. sick leave and occupancy rates
- Supports the staff to provide a suitable environment for patient and family learning a clinical/administrative resource
- Engages in health promotion activities in the organization and community
- Identifies and utilizes various mechanisms to assist in the development of managerial and leadership skills.
- Utilizes internal educational resources and external agencies to assist with the development of managerial competencies.
- Develops and achieves annual performance criteria/goals in conjunction with the Line Manager.
- Actively involved in Risk Management, Infection Control, and Patient Experience committees relevant to the practice
- Attends and participates in the orientation and other hospital-based programs as agreed with the Line Manager.
- Maintains and updates own professional development through relevant educational activities.
- Maintains and updates a professional portfolio.
- Initiates action and reports to the appropriate manager, when staff behavior and/or performance does not meet professional standards.
- Effective and efficient utilization of human resources, consumables, and equipment
- The nursing/midwifery supervisor will also be expected to contribute to the wider corporate and organizational development needs as appropriate within the scope of practice.
- The nursing /midwifery supervisor will be expected to ensure compliance with the requirement of the Health and Safety regulations of the organization.
- Upholds the organization’s customer service standards at all times.
- Complying consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensuring alignment with SEHA facilities policies
- Completing and maintaining regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames
- Maintaining confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with facility policy
- Assuming the role of a brand ambassador for the facility and promoting a customer-focused philosophy in dealing with any stakeholders
- Maintaining positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and also with other departments/sections within the facility
- Performing any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic responsibilities of the role
- Adhering to requirements of the Occupational Health and safety guidelines and infection control guidelines
- Understanding and adhering to emergency preparedness plans/policies
- Recognizing the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position
- Dressing appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with the Occupational Health and Safety policies
- Building key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT
3 years of study duration from an accredited program.
* AND Valid/Current national license.
* AND BLS
Desired:
Certificate of post-graduate diploma in nursing/midwifery or Healthcare or
management or administration field
* International accreditation experience.
