The Department of Anaesthesiology at Aga Khan University is committed to providing clinical excellence in perioperative care as well as the training of future anaesthesiologists. Our team of trained and well-experienced anesthesiologists aims to provide best possible patient care not only in the operation theatres but also beyond it. With current 35 clinical faculty our department is one of the biggest Anaesthesia department in country, our faculty is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education and our programs are recognized at national and international level.

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Fellow Medical Officer (Critical Care Medicine) in the Department of Anesthesiology.

Faculty Title:

Fellow Medical Officer (Critical Care Medicine) – Department of Anesthesiology

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • perform initial assessment and make initial management plan for the patient admitted in the ICU
  • perform daily round with ICU team and document daily progress of the patient
  • prescribe medications as per the ICU policy
  • manage immediate life-threatening emergencies in ICU
  • assess patients in Wards/ER regarding suitability for admission to ICU
  • assess patients regarding suitability for discharge from ICU
  • take part in intra-hospital transport of critical ill patients for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
  • take part in counselling patients and their family regarding end-of-life planning
  • write incident reports, discharge summary and make death certificates
  • abide by the rules and regulations of he hospital and be ready to perform extra unscheduled duties in case of emergencies
  • take care of the sensitive equipment in ICU
  • be available on the premises when on-call and attend to all patient related issues and consults 
  • handover and takeover charge from the ongoing team
  • communicate patient’s clinical status with consultants, when needed. 

Requirements:

You should have:

  • MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by PMDC
  • one year house job or internship
  • residency raining completed in the primary specialty (internal medicine, pulmonology, nephrology, anaesthesiology, surgery
  • FCPS Part ll 
  • previous ICU experience
  • ICU procedures e.g. central line insertion, A-line insertion & Endotracheal intubation 
  • adequate basic science knowledge
  • adequate clinical knowledge in the primary specialty
  • ability to perform patient assessment including history taking and physical examination, interpretation of laboratory and radiological investigations
  • valid certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation 
  • ability to apply clinical knowledge
  • procedural skills to be able to perform assigned procedures
  • good interpersonal skills
  • commitment to practice according to basic principles of medical ethics.
