Job Title:
Asst. Design Manager
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Assist the design team in all stages of the design process, from concept development to final production
- Conduct research on trends, fabrics, and colour palettes to contribute to the design process
- Create mood boards, sketches, and illustrations to communicate design concepts
- Participate in fittings and style-outs, providing input on garment construction and fit
- Assist with sourcing materials and trims, and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of suppliers
- Maintain accurate records of all design development activities, including samples, swatches, and line sheets
- Prepare presentations and reports as needed for internal and external meetings
- Manage day-to-day administrative tasks associated with the design department, such as scheduling, ordering supplies, and maintaining files
- Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for the design team as needed
- Handle customer inquiries and requests in a professional and efficient manner
- Anticipate needs and take initiative to solve problems as they arise
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Motivating and encouraging internal and external design teams
- Ensuring structural drawings and designs are produced on time, to a high quality, and are easy to decipher
- Overseeing the design process using technical expertise
- Working with clients to ensure that their expectations are met
- Reviewing designs with health and safety in mind
- Avoiding errors and reducing financial risk during construction
- Ensuring designs are available to those who need them, at the appropriate time
- Maintaining thorough documentation of the design process
- Keeping up-to-date with changing building legislation and codes of practice relating to design
- Working in an office, with occasional site visits.
The candidate must possess expertise/experience in the following domains:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven experience (minimum 10 years) in technical design management within the interior fit-out sector, preferably in Dubai or the UAE.
- In-depth knowledge of interior fit-out design principles, materials, and construction methods.
- Strong understanding of local building regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, 3D modelling tools, and rendering software.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices and green building certification is a plus.
- Technical Design Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of technical designers, providing guidance and expertise throughout the design process.
- Collaborate with the project management team to establish project requirements, objectives, and timelines.
- Oversee the development and implementation of design concepts, ensuring adherence to specifications, codes, and standards.
- Provide technical expertise and support to resolve any design challenges or issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.
Design Coordination:
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design elements into the overall project plan.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and other technical documents to identify potential conflicts or discrepancies.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source and select appropriate materials, finishes, and fittings for each project.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, building codes, and industry standards in all design aspects.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Conduct thorough reviews and inspections of design deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Implement quality control measures to minimize errors and inconsistencies in design documentation.
- Monitor the progress of design activities and provide regular updates to the project management team.
- Identify areas for improvement in design processes and propose innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Team Management and Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor technical design staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment & Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Promote professional development by identifying training needs and organizing relevant workshops or seminars.
- Foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement within the technical design team.
