About Job:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious academic to join our team at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering.?
We are seeking to appoint an academic to provide a consistently excellent standard of teaching and support for student learning that is underpinned by research and knowledge exchange in the field of Building Physics/Building Engineering. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development, and student recruitment.
Ideally, the candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of curriculum development and subject expertise to deliver exceptional student experience and satisfaction. This should be supported by a growing track record of impactful research projects and research outputs in the field, and demonstrable ability to support a vibrant research culture working collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
Our Department of Architecture and Built Environment is one of the largest schools/units of architecture in the UK with circa 900-1000 talented students in 15 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes covering architecture, architectural environmental engineering, urban design, building services, and sustainable energy technologies. We are particularly known for our research expertise and reputation for innovation in the areas of sustainable architecture and energy efficient buildings, and this area of strength is interleaved throughout our programmes offer.
The successful candidate will be joining a top 100 department/school of architecture in the world according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, which positions us as 5th in the UK. We are ranked within the top 10 departments/schools of architecture in the UK in all major guides (Times Good University Guide and the Complete University Guide), and 1st department for buildings in the UK according to the Complete University Guide 2024. Our Department was ranked 1st in the Russell Group universities for ‘overall satisfaction’ in Architecture at the National Student Survey 2022, and we were voted top 3 architecture school/department by UK top 100 architectural practices. Our Faculty ranked 8th in the UK for research power in the Research Excellence Framework 2012 (REF), which takes into account a combination of the quality of research, international impact, critical mass and sustainability.
We are looking for someone able to build on our existing strengths and excellent reputation, develop our offer and extend our reach and profile, both domestically and internationally.
The position is offered on a permanent, full time (36.25 hours per week) contract. Job share arrangements may be considered.
